NW Numerics Company Information

The company Northwest Numerics, Inc. was incorporated in Seattle WA, March 1996 by the current president Ronald Foerch, Ph.D.

Our goal is to provide solutions for advanced multi-disciplinary engineering analysis, with a special emphasis on materials related issues. To this end, our main focus is on the development and support of Zebulon and the Z-mat library.

NW Numerics Staff

Ronald A. Foerch received his Doctorate from the Ecole des Mines in Paris France, 1996, after porting the general purpose non-linear FEA code Zebulon originally from Fortran to C++. He has extensive experience in high temperature creep fatigue testing and failure analysis microscopy. Dr. Foerch made numerous contributions to the material library and code performance in Zebulon, including writing the Z-mat user material model interfaces for Abaqus, Ansys, LS-Dyna, etc. He has added many element formulations, algorithms, and material models to our software products. Ron's real passion is developing the connection between our advanced FEA technologies and laboratory validation and calibration of those models.
Jeff Baylor has a decade of practical experience using and extending finite element analysis applications (Abaqus, ANSYS and Zebulon) and developing commercial software, primarily CAE applications. Most of this work has been in the aerospace and industrial power industries. His research background is in fracture mechanics and the modeling of impact induced delamination of composite (at UIUC). Jeff's focus at NW Numerics is in modeling of anisotropic materials, supporting the material modeling needs of customers in the aerospace and industrial power industries and any Zansys related work.
Javed Khan Working as a "Product and Applications" engineer at NW Numerics has given me an insight in the wide variety of engineering problems that exits today in the industry. Primarily looking at the development of Z-Set and its applications, I enjoy dealing with our client problems and providing them with the best support. Zebulon and its applications such as Z-mat, Z-master, and Z-Sim are state-of-the-art software applications with an enormous capability to resolve non-linear finite element problems, constitutive modeling and damage mechanics issues. I also give in my efforts to work on the source code to make the Z-set package more scalable and user defined. After finishing my masters in mechanical engineering I was looking for an opportunity where I can find significant intellectual and professional growth and NW NUMERICS, INC. is the place for it.

The Z-set Partnership

The Z-set project has been piloted by the research developments and long term use by the Ecole des Mines Materials Research Centre - UMR CNRS 7633 in Evry France.

ONERA is responsible for development in the parallel solver of Zebulon, and certain material models and FEA solution procedures.

This distributed community of researchers and commercialization developers has been highly successful over the last almost 10 years to deliver a software package with true innovation and quality.
