NW Numerics currently has the following positions open.

Constitutive modeling specialist

We are seeking a motivated individual with an advanced academic background in constitutive model theory, development and application, and with secondary interest in general finite element methods. This position involves work on our Z-mat/Z-set product development as well as addressing customer specific needs and application support. Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum MS and preferred Ph.D. from an accredited university with relevant publication(s).
  • Excellent programming skills, including C++, Perl, Python, other general scripting, and TeX. Strong knowledge of Windows or Unix platforms, with a preference for both.
  • Experience using at least one commercial FEA solver with nonlinear capabilities. Order of preference is ABAQUS, ANSYS, LS-Dyna, others.
  • Specific experience developing finite element software, especially with regards to material model implementation or general nonlinear analysis methods. Advanced subjects are a plus, such as enhanced elements, xfem, finite strain issues, etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following: hyperelastic/hyper-viscoelastic formulations, continuum plasticity or viscoplasticity models with different hardening types, crystal/polycrystal models, damage mechanics. We are especially looking for a strong ability to match a specific problem to the general literature on a phenomenological basis and not specifically numerical.
  • Some to in-depth knowledge of material failure mechanisms including fatigue, TMF, crack growth, crazing, luders banding, etc.
  • Any experimental experience would be beneficial, in addition to interest in design, data acquisition, or control systems.

This position will assume some internal R&D effort, along with emphasis on publication opportunities as a means to increase company exposure, including access to our state of the art high temperature materials testing facility, along with significant computational and other research resources.

NW Numerics is willing to sponsor a H-1B visa for this position according to availability and qualification. This is a full time salaried position with benefits and high growth potential for the right motivated and ambitious individual.

Part Time Machinist / Designer

We currently have a need for a part time machinist with some occasional fixture design tasks and purchasing. This is actually a very good position for an undergrad engineering student wishing to get some experience with classical manufacturing and laboratory instrumentation. Equipment includes a CNC and manual lathe, a Bridgeport vertical mill and a second small mill (both with DROs). Over the next year we may be adding some additional equipment with possible reconditioning work, and virtually everything to be done is one-off tool-room type work.

How to Apply

Please send a Resume and e-mail cover letter to: resume@nwnumerics.com

We would prefer either PDF or ASCII formats for resumes. In your cover letter please indicate the position you are applying for, an honest summary of your career objectives, and what asset you feel you would provide the company.
